Gratis Garden Trees

for the right places
to locate your new trees
measure the distances from infrastructure and other plants

distance from masonry
Avoid damage to foundations, walls, & pavements by planting each tree far enough away to avoid heaving by its major roots as it grows to maturity:  click here for a list of tree species distances from masonry.

distance from structures
Avoid branch damage to structures by planting each tree at least as far away as the radius of its mature canopy:  click here for a list of tree species distances from walls, columns, and overhangs.

distance from understory plants
Avoid extensive shading of understory plants by planting each tree at least as far away from them as half the radius of its mature canopy (which will also minimize future root competition):  click here for a list of tree species distances from understory plants.

distance from other trees
Avoid excessive mature canopy overlap by planting pairs of trees at least as far apart as the radius of the wider tree plus half the radius of narrower tree:  click here for a list of tree species distances from one another.
